WW2 in P4

6th Mar 2026

The pupils are engrossed in and really enjoying our topic WW2 for Term 2. We have explored when it was, the countries involved, what happened and why. We have looked at the evacuation of children and rationing at this time. The pupils were given only 76 tokens to purchase all their clothes for a year after their houses were destroyed and what a job it was! Lots of considerations and changes before final decisions were made!

We were very lucky and want to say thank you to Mrs Gribben for taking in some very special memorabilia from her own family from the time of WW2. The pupils were incredibly eager to find out about the items. They looked at the coins used then and discussed the differences with coins now. They couldn’t believe you would need 240pence to make a pound then!

It took them a wee while to figure out what the camera was! They loved exploring it and comparing it to our cameras today. Finally they looked at a toy car from this time. One of our digital leaders had a great idea to use google lens to see what the toy would have looked like in the time of the 1940s. Lots of interesting learning.
