World Book Day in Primary 1 🐻

5th Mar 2026

On Wednesday, we celebrated World Book Day 2026. There was great excitement as we arrived at school and saw our friends and teachers dressed in their pyjamas. Everyone was eager to share their favourite book and cuddly teddy.

Primary 1 linked the day to their recent topic on bears and began by listening to an audio version of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. We loved watching the author, Michael Rosen, perform the story with actions for each part, and we enthusiastically joined in.

Throughout the day, we took part in a range of activities based on the story. Mrs Gribben challenged us to change the adventure — what else could we go hunting for? We came up with lots of imaginative ideas, including treasure, dinosaurs, monsters and even bugs. Using the paint tool on Just2Easy, we designed the item we were hunting and recorded the opening line of our new story using the microphone feature.

Of course, no bear hunt would be complete without suitable footwear! We designed our own colourful wellies to help us squelch through the thick, oozy mud. For our final task, we created story maps to show the main events of the tale through pictures. We all worked extremely hard.

To finish our day, we went on our very own Bear Hunt. Mrs Gribben gave us clues to help us find seven bears hidden around the school. We tiptoed quietly along the corridor and stumbled and tripped on our way outside as we searched. Everyone was fantastic at spotting the hidden bears! Each child received a certificate to celebrate their participation.

A big thank you to P6, who kindly came to read with their P1 partners. Each child also received a beautiful handmade bookmark to take home.

We all enjoyed a fun-filled and memorable day.
