“Toys are children’s words and play is their language” - P1 and P2 are always busy inside and outside!
1st Jun 2025
Outdoors, the P1 classroom, P2 classroom and play-room are open every day in St. Colman’s as sixty children partake in good, hard, purposeful play together. Planning quite often gets set to the side as the children create and think of relevant topics of their own which lead them into both imaginary and real life situations. Recently the phones have been busy booking cars in for a wash or valet, real landmarks have been built and tested using large construction materials and beautiful play-dough flowers are made. Bee bot has been programmed after learning directions in Numeracy as well as coding in ICT and we revise our phonic sounds when we reach buildings on the mat. Writing using fact and fictional holiday pictures have been completed, transport vehicles built and the work of Claude Monet at the beach in Trouville re-created. We even added little grains of sand on our completed works; just as the wind blew real sand on his original painting! An aeroplane was made by Miss Brannigan and the after school children and this was so useful in helping our imaginative role-play travelling on holiday in the play-room. The travel agents is always busy and the junk art area never is tidy as the children continually express their creative ideas!
