Togetherness through STEM Building, Numeracy Problem-solving and Play-based Learning
25th Mar 2026
This week was the beginning of our Shared Education partnership in Primary 2 with Fair Hill, Kinallen. The children greeted each other with smiles and waves, recalling familiar faces from P1. First activity involved planning time, team-work skills and time management as the children worked together to build lego bridges which were tall, strong and stretched from one base plate to the other. Next step was to be creative and logical to plan and design a garden with twenty flowers in total divided into flowerbeds, using materials of their choice. Some partner groups were even able to recall how 5 and 5 and 5 and 5 make 20 and used this as a design. Play-based learning then took place, even in the unpredictable Spring weather and a firm favourite in Fair Hill was learning to use Google Earth to find our schools and our homes. The outdoor mud kitchen and role-play doctors in St. Colman’s were definitely enjoyed and both days concluded with a story together and a little pupil voice on Shared Education. The next days we come together involve Healthy Kidz stations and sports and lots of exploration in the outdoors in Spa Forest School. Thank you Fair Hill for an enjoyable and memorable two days!
