Pupil Council help promote Dyslexia Awareness Week
This week we had a special assembly on Tuesday to celebrate Dyslexia Awareness Week and the theme of 'RAISE THE VOLUME.' The focus was on recognising and appreciating how each of us is unique and how our brains all work in different ways. We learned that dyslexia is just one example of how some people’s brains are wired differently and that’s something to be celebrated.
We talked about how dyslexia can make some aspects of Literacy a little more challenging but we also discovered that people with dyslexia often have amazing strengths in areas like creativity, problem-solving, big-picture thinking, and imagination.
During the assembly, our pupil council showed us famous people who have dyslexia. We looked at inventors and artists to skilled drivers and actors. We discovered Lewis Hamilton, Albert Einstein, Jennifer Anniston, Liz Pichon - author & illustrator of Tom Gates, Roahl Dahl, Tom Holland, Steven Gerrard, Steven Spielberg and many more all have dyslexia and we saw how they used their unique strengths to achieve great success.
The key message from the assembly was that's it important to celebrate how unique we all are, challenges can be overcome and we must celebrate our strengths.
Classes P4 - P7 are designing their own t-shirts to highlight this message. See P4 & P6 t-shirts below. P5 & P7 to follow.
