Play-based learning in the classroom, playroom and outdoors
2nd Feb 2026
What a busy, productive half term we have had in our daily play in the Foundation Stage. A combination of our class topics on ‘Bears’ and ‘Houses and Homes’ led to so many purposeful learning activities, incidental learning and quality interactions. We were building homes like builders using real house plans, using small world and natural resources to create animal homes and even constructing ‘storm houses’ after storm Chandra. Rally cars with boost buttons were invented with a force so strong it caused the passengers to fall back in giggles! Tesco was busy with daily interruptions, staff shortages, running out of supplies, shopping lists and even online groceries ‘that you don’t have to pay for!’ Acting like sculptors was the focus for the play-dough and we had rockstars and penguins made standing tall using knives and tools. Our new outside areas led to homes for animals, a flower party in the mud-kitchen and a rollercoaster park with candy floss in supply too!
