Open ended Numeracy in P2 🧸🧸🧸
The task was open and simple -
“Ten teddies go to a restaurant. Show how they sat at the tables.”
The children were offered a page if they wanted to record their responses in picture form but were also given the freedom to use absolutely any resource in the classroom they wanted providing they put it back when finished! The adults had to learn to step back for this challenge, to stop tidying and simply just re-direct when perhaps restaurants or cafes were being built instead. Many of our pupils chose to draw their teddies seating arrangements, others were unsure of how to go about this activity as it was so open ended and free, some took a few attempts before completing with 10 teddies and some finished very quickly and easily using simple and available classroom resources. We had many pupils choosing to sit the ten teddies at one large table, giving reasons for their choices and we suggested that there were many possibilities. Have a look at some of the first responses!
