Nothing beats being there!

7th Feb 2024
Today Primary 2 had ‘the best day ever’ at the Transport Museum in Cultra to extend their class topic on Transport and things that move. They set off with snacks, huge lunchboxes and birthday buns packed for the long drive and met with Laura, their tour guide. They explored the very first steam trains, trams, buses, cars, horse drawn carriages, saw artefacts from the Titanic and couldn’t believe that ice-cream, milk and bread were sold and delivered in carts long ago. The children spotted the differences in different classes of travel and saw at first hand how the steam trains were designed to stay on the tracks. Their favourite parts of the day definitely were having a go on the jet ski and the flying tractor and they couldn’t believe that an Amphicar existed just like amphibians on land and water! We can read as many fact books as we wish but nothing beats a trip out of school to see, hear, touch and explore artefacts at first hand. Thank you so much to all who organised our day away and to the Transport Museum for having us.
