This week in P4 we introduced vertical addition with regrouping and recapped on place value work.
We used Cuisenaire in class to explore the process of addition with regrouping and worked on being able to explain all the steps. We also revised some place value elements and then took these concepts outside to reinforce further in a fun way.
The pupils had to firstly make the number we called out by placing the correct number of beanbags in each of the place value hoops. The questions ranged from tens and units to thousands, hundreds, tens and units. Then some of the pupils placed the beanbags in and we had to work out the number made.
The second activity helped to embed vertical addition with regrouping. The pupils had to throw two beanbags into two different hoops and work out the answer using vertical addition.
we had lots of fun reinforcing some of the Numeracy concepts that we are focusing on in class!
