In P4 over the term we have explored measuring with metre sticks looking at estimating and then checking whether something is longer then, about the same as or more than a metre. We have used weighing scales to gain an understanding of the weight of 1kg and then estimate and check various items in our class. This week we looked at measuring using a ruler and how to accurately measure in cm. We had great fun measuring various lengths of masking tape that had been stuck down on our tables.
The pupils are able to select the most appropriate measuring tool based on the item they have been asked to measure. They found it tricky thinking about what could be used to measure larger distances with curves, for eg. road distances and then we introduced the trundle wheel which they will explore more next week.
