Cracking up!
26th Apr 2026
During a recent P6 numeracy lesson, pupils worked collaboratively in groups of three to explore the concepts of perimeter and area using cream crackers. The children first investigated what perimeter and area mean by arranging the crackers into different shapes and discussing their observations together. They then tackled a range of problem‑solving challenges, discovering that by changing the position of the crackers, the area could stay the same while the perimeter changed, and vice versa. This hands‑on activity encouraged teamwork, mathematical discussion and deeper understanding through practical learning, while also making maths engaging and fun.
