St. Colman's Primary School and All Saints' Nursery Unit - A Flagship School for Inclusion

29th Jan 2021

After a recent inspection, we are once again pleased to announce our status as an Inclusion Quality Mark Flagship School. One of only two primary schools across the north to be awarded Flagship Status, the award acknowledges our dedication to inclusive practice.

We have been awarded now for three years running IQM Flagship Status for Inclusion. This award recognises our school community as a unique school and nursery that demonstrates a strong commitment to outstanding levels of inclusive best practice as well as active leadership towards the development of inclusion across a network of schools.

The inspection report praised the school for providing children with a: Warm, welcoming and wonderful environment in which to learn and grow, St. Colman's PS and All Saints' Nursery are a beacon of inclusive practice. Leaders and Governors have a clear vision for the school which includes being an “inclusive, caring school where childhood and community are valued.” School staff are supportive of this vision and work exceptionally hard with great skill and dedication to ensure that they make it a reality. Parents unequivocally recognise and applaud the efforts of staff and leaders who have built their confidence and gained their trust.

Since we began our journey towards a Centre of Excellence and Flagship School for Inclusion we have developed our nursery sensory room, improved our provision and outcomes in ICT, developed closer links with Fairhill PS and other cluster schools, broadened our curriculum, developed pupil well-being practices and their voice in the school. We have had greater levels of home/school communication and enhanced partnerships between ourselves and outside agencies. We have made an ongoing commitment to the promotion of healthy lifestyles, educating our children on the importance of outdoor play and learning.

Where children have significant difficulties our curriculum has been adapted for them to access life skills and areas of learning that are significant to them. It’s not just about data - it’s about the children first and foremost and when you come to visit us you will see how inclusive and nurturing we are.

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all those who work in the school. This award is down to them. Endless hours, weeks and years of commitment to the children and families of Annaclone. We really do have an exceptional workforce here.
