Spanish - Modern Foreign Language (P1-P7)

16th Sep 2019

Learning a language really does have a positive impact on a child's learning. It increases their cultural awareness and understanding, improves their speaking and listening skills and reinforces grammatical terminology.

'If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language that goes to his heart.' (Nelson Mandela).

These two sentences are a powerful reminder that, for all the advantages that being an English-speaking nation brings us, we can never rely on English alone. If we want to build the kind of trust with people from other countries that underpins any kind of relationship, we need to be talking to hearts, not heads.

That is why being able to speak a foreign language is a vital skill for the future of our country and, most importantly, our children. Mrs Connelly has been working with us now for 5 years and knows our children very well. We try not to make our lessons 'Spanish and Vanish', teachers will during the course of the week light touch upon the main things learned on Mondays. Ask your child what they are doing in Spanish and don't be afraid to explore the language yourself with them at home!
