Rocking our socks for World Down Syndrome Day 2019

21st Mar 2019

Today our whole school celebrated  ‘World Down Syndrome Day’ by wearing odd and brightly coloured socks. In assembly we watched a video clip of 50 amazing children with Down Syndrome who showed us just how ordinary and fun life with the condition is......as the song goes....”Don’t Stop Me, I’m having a good time”...Mr O’Neill has been in training for the past few weeks for his sprint around the assembly hall to video our amazing socks..... He broke the record this year and completed it in 1.42 seconds!

Each class participated in various activities such as designing their own odd socks, reading stories about children with Down Syndrome and learning about the condition. P5 sent some of their factfiles to C2k Newsdesk and we are hoping they will be published! Even Canon Kearney took part in the  learning activities.

These activities have helped to raise awareness of what Down Syndrome is and how people with Down Syndrome play a vital role in our lives and community.  We are very blessed to have children with Down Syndrome in our school and community, they are an inspiration to us, each and every day!
